Global Data Model

The GS1 Global Data Model (GDM) helps you leverage your product content for a seamless shopping experience across every channel.

By simplifying and harmonising the exchange of product data around the world, the GS1 GDM increases operational efficiency for brand owners and retailers, while improving data accuracy and completeness for consumers.

GS1 in Europe led the start-up of the Global Data Model and supported work throughout its development.

The GS1 Global Data Model consists of a global layer and (only for Europe) a regional layer, and it is standardised for the following product categories:

  • FMCG Food
  • FMCG Non-food
  • Petfood
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Tobacco

The regional layer for DIY, Garden & Pet is being developed at this moment and will become ratified soon.

You can find additional information on the GS1 GDM here. As for the regional layer of the GS1 Global Data Model, it is being governed by the European Maintenance Group and you can know more about it by clicking the box below.
